Digital Designer

The role

As part of 1973’s continued growth we are looking for an additional designer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis. The role is for a middleweight/senior graphic designer specialising in digital web and email graphics, although knowledge of print design would also be desirable. We encourage all staff to feel empowered in the work they do, taking ownership of tasks and working closely with other members of the team to ensure an informed approach. We find this inspires a feeling of pride and achievement in seeing projects through and allows individuals to grow with the company.

The candidate

The right candidate is highly creative and will bring leading edge design ideas to a variety of both client and internal projects. They are engaged in the latest industry tech and trends and enthusiasm to incorporate this into their work to push the boundaries of their output. They will demonstrate lateral thinking in analysing a brief and understanding both the message and the audience it is targeting. They will have outstanding skills in the Adobe Creative Suite enabling them to create fresh and original artwork from scratch where necessary. They will have a keen knowledge of designing for interactive, digital platforms and the design challenges and opportunities this poses. Communication skills are key in working as part of our team.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing responsive web and email layouts
  • Creating original imagery and icons from scratch
  • Understanding design briefs, carrying out necessary research and exploring various creative solutions
  • Following brand guidelines and templates to create new designs and layouts
  • Artworking existing layouts to new specifications
  • Working in a clear and organized fashion to enable other team members to work with their files
  • Liaising with the development team to understand what is possible or desirable to incorporate into the design to ensure a practical and user-friendly design
  • Speaking or meeting with clients alongside an account manager to take on briefs and discuss ongoing projects

Key skills

  • Highly creative thinking
  • Advanced and up-to-date Adobe Creative Suite skills (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop etc.)
  • Immersed in latest web styles / trends
  • Ability to work to deadlines and budgets
  • Meticulous attention to detail in checking their own work and the work of others
  • Excellent communication skills and positive team attitude
  • Basic copywriting/proof-checking capabilities

Nice to have

  • Front-end coding skills (HTML, CSS)
  • Print design skills
  • Adobe Suite certifications
  • Animation skills

Qualifications / experience

  • 4+ years experience of a digital design position

Account Manager 

The role

1973 are going through an exciting period of growth for the business and as such are looking to bring in an additional Account Manager to complement the existing team and manage global client accounts. This role offers a great career opportunity with the prospect of growing with the company. The role is full-time and in-house so will need someone local to South Oxfordshire.

The Candidate

The right candidate is someone who takes prides and ownership in all work undertaken, maintaining the highest attention to detail. Responsible for managing client campaigns on brief, on time and on budget, whilst delivering excellent customer service, they will take a lead role in the management and development of client accounts and new business.

Responsibilities will include:

Campaign management:

  • Ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently and effectively – on brief, on time and on budget
  • Understand processes and systems and how to progress projects as efficiently as possible
  • Attention to detail across all work – both client facing and internal
  • Ability to set and meet realistic expectations and to question client deadlines when required
  • Effectively communicate with the client and with studio on project status whether on time or delayed
  • Manage quoting process with a full understanding of margin requirements on project
  • Ensure invoicing is managed effectively
  • Ensure quotes are clear to the client and that any additional costs are flagged as soon as possible
  • Work with directors to produce forecasts for the team and own the forecasting for nominated accounts
  • Work with team to ensure profitability of jobs

Deliver excellent customer service:

  • Understand the client – their business, products, objectives, marketing ideas and creative likes and dislikes
  • Understand each client’s expectations and deliver to those requirements
  • Keep in regular contact with all client contacts via phone

Marketing programs and communications expert:

  • Understand different digital marketing channels, when to use each one, how to add value and optimise each activity
  • Take ownership of projects from start to finish
  • Understand studio creation processes
  • Understand print production
  • Understand full range of 1973 digital services

Development of client business:

  • Own client account plans, identify new and additional services and drive business development
  • Keep on top of client developments (new products, people etc.)
  • Prepare, develop and present proposals to clients
  • Competently demo relevant tools to clients when there is an opportunity

Business improvements:

  • Identify ways that we can improve our processes, service and deliverables
  • Ensure identified improvements are implemented within the business
  • Ensure consistency of quotes, briefs and proposals across the business

Teamwork: 

  • Provide support and help to others when needed; both within account teams and across the company
  • Mentor account managers within the team by understanding their projects and providing support

Desired Skills and Experience:

Campaign management

  • Strong organisation and time management skills
  • Project management skills

  • Understanding of commercial aspects of the business

Marketing expertise 

  • Marketing background, ideally technology/channel
  • Understand marketing services & production/development processes – design, digital, print
  • Understand and implement campaign metrics, measurement and ROI

Teamwork

  • Experience of delegation and of managing and developing other team members

Qualifications / experience

  • 4-5 years experience in Account Management
